DAMAGED HAIR

Damaged Hair

The hair has three layers the medulla, cortex and cuticle, which are made up of proteins. When the hair got damaged the cuticles open and protein bonds break. The damaged hair are rough as well as brittle to touch that’s why more prone to split ends.

Causes of Damaged Hair

Heat Styling

During the heat styling the moisture is withdrawn from the hair and the hair become dry and brittle. Different heat styling tools like hair dryers, hot rollers, curling irons and flat irons damage the hair.

Harmful chemicals

The various chemicals used on hair are bleaches, perms, and relaxes. The chemicals applied on the hair make the cuticle swollen, which further roughens cuticle. This way the hair becomes more prone to chipping and breaking off. Even the protein bonding in hair gets severely affected so the hair become weak and gets damaged.

Harsh weather conditions

The adverse environmental conditions make the hair dry, brittle and prone to breakage. Like in the summer, the UV rays of sun break the protein in hair whereas in winter the cold wind with less moisture tangle hair and roughen hair's cuticle.

Friction

Our daily activities cause friction like combing hair and sleeping and constant rubbing of hair against a surface breaks hair.

One can prevent hair damage through repair treatment of hair.
